Senior Director of Energy Storage

Job Description:

Lead, manage, support, and drive the overall energy storage strategy. Lead and drive technical conceptual designs, technology qualification, energy assessments and modelling tools. Evaluate emerging storage technologies, configurations, use cases and revenue stacks in all major US markets. Support Business Development teams in the origination, diligence, evaluation, and development of energy storage projects. Drive early-stage prospecting and development efforts for stand-alone projects. Lead and drive necessary field studies and external project assessments. Collaborate and give technical support in matters related to the interconnection and regulation capabilities of storage plants. Ensure projects compliance with the local regulations and standards to optimize designs. Coordinate, support, and oversee capex estimations for energy storage projects. Recommend and advise on the technology and projected cost projections for execution storage projects. Lead and assist with the development of key contracting strategies, terms, and implementation of energy storage systems. Provide strategic leadership as well as technical support to the Procurement team. Support teams throughout the development, contracts, RFP’s, RFI’s, contracting, and negotiations of energy storage execution projects. Review all aspects of EPC bidder’s proposals pertaining to energy storage during EPC selection. Coordinate the evaluation and resolution of the proposed modifications of the final construction project raised in the construction phase. Prepare and lead Lessons Learned from the project and update and maintain technical standards. Support Construction during the execution of energy storage projects. Manage commissioning, site acceptance testing, and EMS integration. Collaborate closely with various departments, including Business Development, Finance, Tax, Transmission, and Project Execution. Lead the development and provisioning of inputs to Capex and Opex models using current industry contacts and intelligence from the industry. Maintain and develop key strategic relationships with major vendors, suppliers, and contractors throughout the energy storage industry. Lead the application of the common standards in the projects. Lead the team in the engineering best practices definition and implementation. Develop and manage reports to management by producing regular and frequent project status updates and other reporting documents. Position is fixed based in Houston, TX office; However, telecommuting from a home office location is allowed. Up to 20% of travel required for site visits, supply chain and project meetings, and contract negotiations.

Job Requirements:

Requires a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Engineering and Public Policy, Energy, or a directly related field plus five (5) years of experience in the energy storage industry in an engineering role, project management role, or related occupation. 

Must have at least five (5) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Experience designing and sizing energy storage systems, including chemical battery-based technologies
  • Experience in greenfield energy storage development, go to-market strategies, or project commercialization
  • Experience contracting EPC’s regarding energy storage projects, including performance requirements, warranties, LD’s, and procuring energy storage equipment
  • Experience with Energy Storage costs (equipment and installation) for estimating large capital projects
  • Engineering and project design experience with Solar PV and Wind technology
  • Experience with engineering, market economics, and design optimization for PV, Wind, and Storage projects
  • Experience establishing strong relationships with energy storage equipment vendors
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Must have at least three (3) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Experience in energy storage project valuation and acquisitions

40 hours/week, 9:00am-5:00pm.
