Manager, Performance Engineering 

Swift Current Energy (the “Company”) is a renewable energy project developer, owner, and operator with more than 10GW of projects in the pipeline and approximately 1GW of projects currently under construction or in operations. To support the optimal performance of these projects, the Company is seeking a Manager of Performance Engineering. This role is preferably based in the Company’s Houston office, with periodic travel to other Company offices and project sites.

About the Role: 

The Manager of Performance Engineering will work across an experienced team comprised of asset management, finance & accounting, procurement, and construction experts to facilitate optimal performance of the Company’s wind, solar, and BESS projects. This role reports to the Executive Vice President of Engineering and Performance Analytics. 

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Monitor performance of all operational wind, solar and BESS assets, with a focus on maximizing energy production and revenues. 
  • Identify underlying issues for underperformance and collaborate with team members including asset managers, engineers and in-house (and third-party) O&M operators to resolve issues. 
  • Liaise with OEMs to resolve equipment under-performance issues. 
  • Work with Asset Management team to generate monthly, quarterly, and annual project and portfolio-level performance reports. 
  • Perform and categorize loss calculations contributed by different factors, i.e., soiling/snow, curtailment, and others. 
  • Write and negotiate availability guarantees, performance ratios and capacity test exhibits, including descriptions of calculation methodologies and sample calculations to be included in project contracts for illustrative purposes. 
  • Calculate contractual availability guaranties, including collaborating with asset managers to source SCADA data. 
  • Provide support as needed to the Asset Management team to support ongoing project operations. 
  • Participate in evaluating and building SCADA systems and remote monitoring systems. 
  • Develop and communicate feedback on design improvements based on lessons learnt with pre-construction and engineering colleagues. 
  • Support the pursuit of major equipment warranty claims by providing technical advice and information. 
  • Support recovery from major equipment failures, including leading root cause analyses and serving as Swift’s primary point of contact with insurance adjusters on technical issues. 
  • Support the finance team on technical and performance-related topics. 
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues in project equipment, by means including establishing and maintaining contact with industry peers managing the same equipment, subscribing to relevant publications, and identifying and attending conferences or other events covering emerging issues. 
  • Other duties as required from time to time. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required. 
  • 4 to 8 years of experience supporting the operations and performance of utility-scale wind, solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects is required. 
  • 4 to 8 years of experience in performance engineering-related roles within an independent power producer (IPP), asset owner / operator, or Independent Engineering firm. 
  • Prior experience working across a range of software tools, including the MS Office suite, PVSyst, monitoring platforms like Ignition, Wonderware, Power Factors, GPM and other solar optimization software. 
  • Knowledgeable of technologies used in utility-scale wind, solar and BESS projects. 
  • Experience with new and emerging technology evaluation is a plus. 
  • Civil engineering/construction experience is a plus. 
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage System modelling is a plus. 
  • Experience with wind project energy estimation is a plus. 
  • Ability to travel 25% to 30% for projects, conferences and other industry events as needed. 
  • Current authorization to live and work in the U.S. is required.
