Solar Development Engineer

Swift Current is seeking an experienced Solar Development Engineer who will be based in the Company’s Houston office, reporting to the Executive Vice President of Engineering and Performance Analytics. You will work with an experienced team comprised of project developers, finance, procurement, construction, and project management experts as you create and review designs for utility-scale solar PV projects.

Job Scope:

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with the Development team to create conceptual plans for multiple scenarios related to project viability and design, including but not limited to various modules, trackers, and inverter manufacturers.
  • Create project layouts and perform loss calculations including losses related to sub-hourly clipping, terrain losses and wind stow losses, collectively known as post-processing losses. Experience with Wind project and its energy estimation is a plus.
  • Partner with EPCs to finalize plant energy models and finalize all the losses based on selected BOS.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to provide inputs to project finance models and LCOE calculations.
  • Provide RFI support during construction to ensure projects are built as per company and industry standard.
  • Contribute to value engineering initiatives.
  • Manage 3rd party engineering resources during project design phase.
  • Play an active role during project financings and work with independent engineers on design iterations and technical reviews.
  • Manage, create, and update internal specifications, tools, and reports to optimize project designs and workflow.
  • Develop and maintain plant capacity and availability specifications and test procedures.
  • Assist to create tools, models, specifications, and processes to optimize plant performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant fields is required.
  • 4-8 years of experience working with an IPP, Renewables Developer, EPC or Independent Engineering firms with particular experience in utility-scale solar project development and construction.
  • Prior experience working across a range of software tools, including the MS Office suite, AutoCAD/civil 3D, PVSyst, and other solar optimization software.
  • Knowledgeable of technologies used in utility scale solar plants, including inverter, module and tracker technologies.
  • Experience with new and emerging technology evaluation is a plus.
  • Civil engineering/construction experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage System modelling is a plus.
  • Experience with Wind project and its energy estimation is a plus.
  • Ability to travel for 25%-30% of the time for projects, conferences and other industry events as needed.
  • Current authorization to live and work in the U.S.
