In August 2022, the City of Chicago signed a 5-year retail electricity contract with Constellation Energy to power all City-owned buildings, streetlights, and other facilities with reliable, renewable electricity by 2025. This $422 million transaction includes a 300 MW solar power purchase agreement (PPA) through a new solar farm in central Illinois built by Swift Current Energy, which will cover an estimated 70% of their approximately 900,000 MWh of annual electricity consumption.
